If you missed them:
This week, I will be reading the third of four excerpts of my long poem Red-Eared Slider. Each section of the poem relies on the others for context. If you’ve missed the previous sections, you can find them in the archive on my substack. I will include an audio of the full poem with the final installment.
A few years ago I found an article online that used section X of the poem as an example of hyperrealism in literature. I think I understand that. Maybe. I would love it if someone wants to discuss hyperrealism in poetry!
I’m including the text as image files to preserve the line indentations.
“Red-eared Slider” is my memoir in verse. All of it true—even the fiction.
(from mixed states. Wigestand forlag. 2009)
The entire poem is also available in Mercy Island, Published by Phoenicia Publications.
Thanks so much for reading/listening! I’d love to read and share more nature poetry. If you have a poem you’d like included in Substack notes, just drop the link in my chat, and I’ll be sure to read and restack it. You might also find other poems you’d like to share.
The chat is open to all subscribers—free and paid.
I’ll be back again this week with another process journal entry.
Until then, I hope you have a great week!
Warmly,
Ren
